If I read the rules right, a dino used for cav only needs one Beastmaster controller, regardless of the dino's size.
A velociraptor is a size 1 critter, so could a Beastmaster, size 1 as well, ride an adult raptor?
What's the youngest, aproximately, that a Beastmaster can be? Reason being, is that if an adult Beastmaster is to big for the raptor, can I then have some juvenile/teen Beastmasters riding the adult raptors. Kinda like:
Dino Boy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Ghost_and_Dino_Boy
Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_Dinosaur
Just a thought.
It'd look pretty bad ass to see a squad of Raptor Cav come charging across the field at the Guardsman.
Actually, only those dinosaurs with the 'Cavalry' trait can have beastmaster riders. The rest must have beastmasters on foot. Velociraptors are an exception to the normal beastmaster rules. They have a special rule called "alpha predator". The Alpha model acts to keep the rest in line and counteracts their instincts in the same way a beastmaster does. This means that there are NO beastmasters necessary for raptors. If the alpha is killed, however, the remainder of the dinosaurs in the unit will act upon instinct.
The 'alpha predator' trait will be coming out in the full rulebook. The Demo Pack only has those new advanced rules and traits necessary to run the units included in the pack.
Redcat and I were talking about harnessing the raptors if possible and using them to draw a crude war charot (think Orcs from Warhammer). Crude looking , but effective.
The beastmasters have tried to harness the Velociraptors but with little success, they do much better hunting in packs. Only the naughty beastmasters are sent in to harness a Velociraptor.
