Just a quick update on the status of Apocalypse-D. We're putting the finishing touches on a Demo Pack of D rules. We'll have these with us at Historicon this coming week and copies are free to those to play the Thursday afternoon demo game or stop by the Mongoose Publishing booth in the vendor hall.
We're anticipating completion of D at the end of August, which would poise us for a December 08 release date if the project ends up going through Mongoose's Flaming Cobra imprint program. Estimated MSRP will be $14.95.
If you'd like a copy of the demo pack give us a shout at dinfo@explodinggoatgames.com.
Well the convention season is winding down for us and it is back to the grindstone. The original timeline for D to be complete was end of August but will probably be beginning of September. The feedback from conventions and the games run really let us know what we needed fixing and what worked. Thanks to all for the encouragement and the excitement you are all showing.
Man Oh Man, I downloaded the Demo Pack and I really do hate you guys. The link to papo-france.com... now my middle Built In Gamer (BIG) wants to have dinosaurs in his wargames.
Me thinks I'll be ordering that one too.
Edit: Are the Papo Dino models in scale with each other? I mean is the Velocaraptor smaller than the T-Rex and Allosaurus?

Papo dinosaurs in the ReplicaSaurus Line are 1:40 scale, but I think they forgot that with the velociraptors. They are not in scale at all. We use them as UtahRaptors (a 25-30ft long cousin of velocis). Papo does have the best figurine dinosaurs out there. We've actually worked out a wholesale agreement with their North American importer. In the future we might be putting together army packs...but this is at least 3/4 months off (D is expected to be released Jan '09). Also, Papo makes the Smurf models so you never know...Smurfs v/ Dinos??? is there a market for that game???
There are a ton of metal dinosaur minis at the 28mm scale but the Papo's are the best bang for the buck. For scale junkies they won't do, but for us, they're too pretty not to use. Schleich and Safari Ltd also make dinos, but they're not as nice. Schleich, however, has a far greater selection than Papo.
As far as cavemen goes, PulpMinis, RLBPS, and Copplestone Castings make some nice figs (actually once D comes out, it will be the official game for RLBPS's Dazed Minis line, I worked this out with Bob, the "R" in RLBPS, at Historicon).
IronWind metals had some small scale raptor type dinos that I picked up for composagnathuses (the little green blighters that swarmed the dude in JPII). They're too big, but its hard to find and dinos in the 1/4"tall size!!! I mounted those 3 to a base.
Sorry Armydillo, Wizkids uses frames in side flash so your link came up dead. Found them though, and did an Ebay search.. ouch cheapest was $5+ for a single. I'm sure I'll be able to find some elsewhere.
Though buying a case of Horrorclix might not be a bad idea, I'd get raptors, cleaners and zombies. But then I'd have a lot of mini's that I'd be ejecting too.
Decisions, Decisions.....
And A-D is not coming out till January 09?!? Oh, you have to answer to my middle BIG now MasterGoat.... He's expecting this from the Jolly Old Fat Man himself.... whoops, I think he's talkin' 'bout me

Sorry about the frames. Wizkids sucks nuts all around, from most of their games, to their support, to their forum. IMO. :)
They f'd over Haloscape and Horrorscape, not to mention Mechwarror. WK can eat dino doo-doo for that. Three good games gone.
But, back to Apoc D. This game is pretty darn fun. If I can find time, I'll do up a map and AAR of our recent adventure and then were heading back to Apoc Z.
I will say that with school starting up again, most of my younger players are a bit busy with homework........BUT......they want me to do an Apoc Z cross over with Apoc D and have zombie dinosaurs. Crazy kids. :)
We're running into a few art issues... that is to say, our current cover art ain't up to snuff. This will likely push it off until January. I apologize heartily for this. We will keep posting new units here though to keep our throngs of fans (of 3 or 4) receiving new content.
If anyone finds some nice art out there that has the same feel as the current concept cover, let me know... pleeeeeeeeaaaaaassseeeee....
I might have to auction off a kidney on eBay to pay for a commissioned piece otherwise.
Just wanted to give everyone a brief update on Apocalypse-D. We're still plugging away and apperciate everyone's patience. Art is still a bit of an issue. We've not even been able to get a response from Scheich (German figurine manufacturer) about our request to use images of their dinosaur figurines in the book. We have Papo's permission though, and will be using images of their phenomenal, industry-leading dinosaurs in "D". Without Schleich's permission, this leaves us scrambling for artwork on many of the dinosaur units. We're working on this.
We've decided not to pursue an official Flaming Cobra imprint agreement on Apocalypse-D, at least in the short term. It takes several months to get a print book into circulation due to listing and advertising. We're going to release it as a WargameVault PDF and probably a LuLu.com print-on-demand product. The Lulu issue will likely be decided by the final price for which we can provide it. If the best Lulu can do is a $30.00 book, we'll likely not do this. No point in needing a home equity loan to buy a supplemental rule book. When we get closer to release date, we'll announce more on this issue.
For now, I can say that if this is not out by the holidays in PDF format, I will have our Exploding Goat Games member, Tom (our security and "enforcer") punch me very VERY hard in the kidneys. I hate being punched in the kidneys and Tom knows how to hurt, so this is a great motivator to solve the issues that we're facing!!!
