Gearmageddon teaser

Greetings all,

Some interesting developments here at the Goat. We're diligently plugging away at our battle system, but we've had a bit of a boon in the form of phenomenal rules contributed by Carl Fazzina! One of the first concepts we ever developed here in the early days of the Goat was Gearmageddon, a fast-paced vehicle combat game where players piloted cars, trucks, and other everyday vehicles in vicious combat. Strap some weapons and armors on these puppies and let the fun ensue!! We put together some basics, but the project was put on hold in favor of Apocalypse-Z and other things. Well.. this didn't quite suit Carl.. he went off and created a TREMENDOUS set of rules that are fast, fun, and furious. Not a simulation... not something you'll need an advanced degree in physics too play.. just rapid-fire dice rolling fun.

The rules were so good right out of the gate that our initial in-house playtesting showed very little need for significant improvements. We tweaked a few things here and there and we've started playtesting it at our local brick and mortar store.  We've been using various vehicles, most notably Battle Machines by Jada. These puppies cost about twice the amount of a regular Hot Wheels or Matchbox, but come.. OUT OF THE BOX... fully armed and operational!! Best part.. you can even pick em up at your local big box retailer for around 5 buckaroos.

We're putting together the rule book as we speak, and actually investigating the possibilities of manufacturing card decks for the weapons, gear, and driver cards. But.. just to give you an idea what the setting is for Gearmageddon... here's a bit of fluff...

Marhaba Petitioner,

Forgive the casual greeting, but our customary and formal greeting of 'Salam wa aleikum' just does not seem quite fitting, for peace is not why you are here. Our sport is a sport of violence, a sport of blood, a sport of death. We are all willing participants in this most barbarous of activities and the adrenaline and glory of victory far outweighs any risks that might be visited upon us.

We Princes of Dubai have long hosted these tournaments. Petitioners such as you come from all corners of the globe, equipped with the most modern weaponry and the most highly engineered vehicles to fight in our arenas of mechanical chaos. Whilst these are the tools of our trade, it is the heart of the warrior and your skill in battle that will make you rise above the rest. You have succeeded thus far in gaining the attentions of our talent scouts, now it is up to you, and you alone, to merit inclusion into our most esteemed ranks of competitors. You shall start with the most basic of equipment in your stable and, if you prove competent and entertaining enough for our tastes, your bankrolls and fame will grow until one day your name may sit amongst the most the most talented and vicious of warriors in our annals.

Our arenas are constructed by only the most deviously minded of engineers. Our prizes supplied by the richest of clients. If you pass the trials of initiation you will be eligible for more powerful weapons and more durable vehicles. If you survive the arenas, you might even be included in a stable of the most apt of our drivers as part of a team. Be wary, however, for oft times the feuds of the arena spill out into the streets and deserts of our most beautiful of lands. The rules of the arena do not apply in these contests of rivalry and hate. Be warned.

So Petitioner I invite you to construct your vehicle, arm it with the most deadly of weapons in your arsenal, and take to the circus of death. If you have the stomach for the violence and the skill with the equipment, you too might be richer than your wildest dreams.

Hathan Sa'eedan,

Prince Faris ibn al-Walid"

Well.. there you have it... now light the fires and squeal the tires!!!!

Jay

Public playtesting is going on tonight for Gearmageddon at the Time Machine Hobby in Manchester, CT (71 Hilliard St) from 6pm on. We'll be snapping some photos of the playtesting and I'll get them up here as soon as I can!
